Rosacea Treatment Guide: Calm Redness, Flushing and Sensitive Skin
Rosacea: A Calmer Way Forward
If you are living with rosacea, you will know it is not just a “skin issue.”
It can feel unpredictable.
Uncomfortable.
Embarrassing.
At times overwhelming.
Redness, flushing, burning, visible capillaries, acne-like bumps — they can appear without warning. And often the very products meant to help seem to make things worse.
I understand this personally.
Rosacea-prone skin is not weak skin. It is responsive skin. Sensitive. Intelligent. Sometimes over-alert.
This guide is here to help you:
• Understand what may be triggering your flare-ups
• Simplify and calm your routine
• Choose ingredients that support resilience
• Regulate stress-triggered flushing
• Build a personalised approach that feels sustainable and kind

What Is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that most often affects the cheeks, nose, chin and forehead.
Common signs include:
• Persistent redness
• Flushing episodes
• Visible capillaries
• Burning or stinging sensations
• Acne-like bumps
• Skin that reacts easily to products
Rosacea is not simply “sensitive skin.”
It is not always acne.
It is often a combination of:
• Vascular reactivity (blood vessels dilate easily)
• Inflammation
• A compromised skin barrier
And very often, nervous system sensitivity.
Why Rosacea Flares
Rosacea tends to flare when three systems become overstimulated.
1. Blood Vessel Reactivity
Tiny facial blood vessels dilate easily in response to:
• Heat
• Stress
• Anxiety
• Alcohol
• Spicy food
• Screen time
• Environmental exposure
Flushing is not random. It is a vascular response.
2. Inflammation
When inflammation rises, the skin becomes more reactive and prone to redness or bumps.
What is happening on the outside often mirrors what is happening internally — stress load, hormonal shifts, gut imbalance, lack of sleep.
3. A Weakened Skin Barrier
When the skin barrier is impaired:
• Skin stings
• It burns
• It loses moisture easily
• Products feel irritating
The goal is not to “fight” rosacea.
The goal is to calm, strengthen and stabilise.
Common Rosacea Triggers
Not everyone shares the same triggers, which is why self-awareness matters.
Common triggers include:
• Sun exposure
• High UV environments (especially in New Zealand)
• Heat, wind, cold snaps
• Hot showers
• EMF exposure, prolonged screen use
• Alcohol (this varies — I personally flare with white wine more than red; keep your own record)
• Spicy foods
• Stress and anxiety
• Over-exfoliation
• Harsh foaming cleansers
• Strong acids or retinoids
• Heavy fragrance
Tracking your patterns for 2–3 weeks can be incredibly empowering.
Your skin has a rhythm. Learn it.
A Simple, Supportive Rosacea Routine
The biggest mistake I see is over complication.
Rosacea thrives on simplicity and consistency.
Morning (AM)
• Gentle rinse with lukewarm water only
• Barrier-support Power Super Serum or Soothing Serum then Rosacea Support Moisturiser.
• Mineral sunscreen when exposed to sun. W elvoe Goodbye SPF 50 sunscreen.
Be mindful that layering too many products can cause reactivity.
We love Goodbye Sunscreen (100% natural, SPF 50) for sun protection.
If you are indoors and not exposed, keep things minimal.
If you experience a daytime flare:
• Apply Cooling Gel over moisturiser
• Use on neck and wrists to support cooling
• Step away from heat sources
Mineral SPF is particularly important in strong UV climates.
Evening (PM)
• Gentle cleanse with yoghurt cleanse or Cleansing Oil
• Power Super Serum or Soothing Serum
• If dry, add a few drops of Mānuka & Reishi Night Oil
If bumps are present:
• Apply Power Super Mask thinly overnight
• Do not layer other actives
Less is often more.
Ingredients That Support Rosacea-Prone Skin
Barrier-Supporting Ingredients
•Hyaluronic Acids and Glycerin
• Panthenol
• Mango Butter
• Vegetable Squalane
These reduce stinging and strengthen the outer skin layer.
Calming & Anti-Redness Ingredients We Use
• Hyaluronic Acid
• Black Mamaku
• Turmeric
• Blue Chamomile
• Mānuka Honey
• Bee Venom
These support comfort, visible redness reduction, and skin resilience.
When Bumps Are Present
If redness is accompanied by acne-like bumps, very gentle anti-inflammatory support works better than aggressive acne treatments.
Over-exfoliation almost always worsens rosacea. The Power Super Mask is a healing, refining and detoxing mask that exfoliates sensitive skin. Just apply a very thin layer on a cleansed face at night and wear it to bed. Rinse off with tepid water in the morning.
Rosacea & Peri-Menopause
Hormonal shifts during peri-menopause often increase:
• Flushing
• Heat sensitivity
• Dryness
• Product reactivity
The skin may feel thinner and less resilient.
At this stage, supporting the barrier and calming the nervous system becomes even more important.
We have additional blogs specifically addressing peri-menopause and rosacea for deeper guidance.
Breathing for Stress-Triggered Flushing
Rosacea is not only topical.
It is also vascular and neurological.
When we feel anxious, blood vessels dilate.
Facial flushing intensifies.
Learning to regulate the nervous system can reduce flare intensity.
4–6 Calming Breath
Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds
Pause gently
Exhale slowly for 6 seconds
Repeat for 2–3 minutes
The longer exhale activates the parasympathetic nervous system — your body’s calming response.
Many people notice reduced facial heat within minutes.
Cooling Reset Practice
If a flush is rising:
• Step away from heat
• Place cool (not ice-cold) water on wrists
• Relax your jaw
• Drop your shoulders
• Slow your breath
Rosacea care includes nervous system care.
Your skin responds to your internal state.
A Note From Suzanne
I did not approach rosacea as a trend or a marketing category.
I approached it because I lived it.
There were seasons where my face would flush in meetings.
Where certain foods felt like betrayal.
Where new products caused more harm than help.
As a formulator, I began asking a deeper question:
What if rosacea is not something to suppress ... but something to understand?
Over the years I have learned that rosacea-prone skin is not fragile.
It is intelligent.
It is responsive.
It asks for rhythm, not aggression.
This guide is both scientific and experiential.
It is built from research, formulation knowledge, and lived reality.
Understanding Your Rosacea Pattern
Not all rosacea behaves the same way.
Through years of observing clients (and my own skin), I see three common patterns:
Pattern 1: Barrier-Compromised & Reactive
• Products sting easily
• Skin feels tight or dry
• Flare-ups follow new routines
• Burning sensation more than bumps
This pattern needs repair and simplification.
Pattern 2: Flushing & Heat Dominant
• Sudden warmth in cheeks
• Alcohol or stress triggers redness
• Visible capillaries
• Feels vascular rather than bumpy
This pattern needs cooling, nervous system support and mineral sun protection.
Pattern 3: Redness With Bumps
• Acne-like pustules
• Inflamed texture
• Reacts to heavy creams
• Worsens with over-exfoliation
This pattern needs calming inflammation without stripping.
Take the Rosacea Pattern Quiz below to discover your primary pattern and receive a tailored routine.
How Long Does It Take to Calm Rosacea?
One of the most common questions I receive is:
“How long before I see improvement?”
The honest answer is:
It depends on how inflamed and reactive the skin currently is.
However, many people notice:
• Reduced burning within 7–14 days
• Less frequent flushing within 3–4 weeks
• Improved resilience after 6–8 weeks of consistency
Rosacea improves through rhythm, not intensity.
Consistency matters more than strength.
If Your Rosacea Is Hormone-Linked
Some rosacea patterns overlap with:
• Hormonal acne
• Peri-menopausal flushing
• Cortisol-driven inflammation

A Different Way to Think About Rosacea
Rosacea is not your enemy.
It is often your body’s signal that something is overstimulated, externally or internally.
When you reduce friction, calm inflammation, and regulate your nervous system, the skin often follows.
You do not need twenty products.
You need a coherent approach.
Take the quiz below, or begin with the simplest routine outlined above. (We are jsut loading the quiz)
Your skin can become more resilient. It just needs support, not force.
